Farzana Ghulam Hussain's Story

For the past six years, Farzana Ghulam Hussain, a 43-year-old woman from Karachi, has been suffering from pain in both of her hip joints. Simple tasks like walking around her home, caring for her children, or even standing for a while have become significantly challenging. Desperate for relief, Farzana visited a doctor at a local hospital. After performing a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed Farzana with bilateral Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip. It is a condition that occurs when the blood supply to the hip joints is disrupted, leading to the death of bone tissue. Her left hip joint is more affected than the right one. Therefore, her doctor has advised her to undergo left Hip Replacement surgery, but her family can’t afford to pay for her surgery.

If Farzana does not undergo surgery, she may experience persistent pain. She may not be able to stand, sit, and walk. The condition may worsen over time, leading to joint deformity and further cartilage damage.

Farzana lives in a rented home with her husband and four children. Her husband works hard as a daily wage laborer, earning only PKR 30,000 per month—an amount barely enough to make ends meet. They struggle to pay PKR 12,000 for house rent along with utility bills of PKR 2000. One of their four children is in school, and they also have to pay PKR 2000 monthly for their school fees. With such limited resources, affording this life-changing hip replacement surgery is simply impossible for them.

With tearful eyes, Farzana shared her plea as follows:

“I can no longer care for my family the way I used to. The pain has taken away my ability to walk, to work, and to live normally. I dream of the day when I will be able to stand on my own feet again without pain and without needing help for every little thing. Please help me regain my mobility so I can live a normal life again.”

Farzana’s future depends on your generosity. Your support can relieve her pain, restore her ability to walk, and give her a chance to live independently again. Open your hearts and give generously.

Farzana Ghulam Hussain's Story

Farzana Ghulam Hussain, a 43-year-old woman from Karachi, had been suffering from pain in both her hip joints. Even the simplest activities like walking from one room to another, standing in the kitchen, or looking after her children became challenging for her. Recently, Farzana visited a local hospital, where a thorough medical evaluation was carried out. She was diagnosed with bilateral Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip, a condition caused by an interrupted blood supply to the hip joints, leading to the death of affected bone segment. Her left hip was in a more advanced stage of damage than her right. The doctor advised a left-sided hip replacement to restore her mobility and prevent further deterioration. However, the cost of the surgery was far beyond what her family could afford.

Farzana lives with her husband and four children in a small rented home. Her husband works as a daily wage laborer, earning only PKR 30,000 per month. Nearly half of this income goes toward rent, while the rest is spent on groceries, utility bills, and basic school expenses for their children. The family often has to compromise on other needs just to get through the month, leaving no room for costly medical treatment. During this time of need, they reached out to Transparent Hands. After listening to their concerns, we registered her case.

On June 13, 2025, she was admitted to Altamash General Hospital, Karachi, where Dr. Muzafar Hussain performed a successful left hip replacement surgery. She received attentive post-operative care and was discharged in stable condition on June 18, 2025.

With relief and gratitude, Farzana said:

“For years, I lived with pain that made even the smallest movements difficult. I can now stand and care for my children without constant discomfort. This change has brought relief not just to me, but to my whole family. I am thankful to you for your generous support.”

Today, Farzana can stand, walk, and manage her home with far less discomfort.

Her family is deeply appreciative of your compassion and generosity that helped her reclaim her independence.
