Somiya Needs Open-Heart Surgery to Survive
Somiya Bibi's Story
Somiya Bibi, a 1-year-old girl from Shangla, KPK, has been experiencing breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. Her tiny body struggles to keep up with even simple activities like crying or feeding. Somiya’s skin and lips often turn blue, filling her parents’ hearts with worries. Hoping to find answers, her family took her to a local hospital. After a series of medical tests, the doctor diagnosed her with Transitional AVSD, moderate mitral valve regurgitation and pulmonary hypertension. These are congenital heart defects that restrict proper blood flow, making it difficult for her heart to function properly. Her doctor has advised open-heart surgery -CAVC repair. However, her family can’t afford to pay for her surgery.
Somiya’s condition is worsening with each passing day. Without timely surgical intervention, she may face a high risk of life-threatening complications. The thought of losing their beloved daughter is unbearable for her parents, who watch helplessly as she struggles with each breath.
Somiya lives in a modest home with her parents and seven siblings. Her father is a driver and hardly manages to bring in just PKR 15,000 per month. Their household expenses take up a significant portion of his income. Moreover, they have a large family of ten, making it even more difficult for them to set aside any savings. Due to their financial hardships, affording to pay for Somiya’s surgery is impossible for them. During this challenging time, Somiya’s parents turned to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance.
Somiya’s father said with teary eyes:
“I am working to the point of exhaustion but this surgery is costly and I can’t afford it. Somiya’s heart beats too fast and time is running out for her. Surgery can save her, but I don’t have enough money. I am requesting your support to help my daughter in undergoing this life-saving surgery.”
Somiya relies on your generosity. With your kindness, she can have a healthy life where she can play, grow and thrive like other children of her age. Your support can secure Somiya’s future.

Somiya Bibi's Story
Somiya Bibi, a 1-year-old girl from Shangla, KPK, had faced hardships since the day she was born. Her tiny body was burdened with breathlessness and chest discomfort, making simple activities like crying and feeding incredibly challenging. Her family took her to a local hospital. After a series of tests and evaluations, the doctor diagnosed Somiya with Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), moderate mitral valve regurgitation, and pulmonary hypertension. These congenital heart defects were severely restricting proper blood flow and placing immense stress on her little heart. The doctor advised open-heart surgery (Complete atrioventricular canal - CAVC repair) to correct these defects. Unfortunately, the cost of this surgery was beyond her family’s means.
Somiya lives in a modest house with her parents and seven siblings. Her father, who works as a driver, earns just PKR 15,000 a month. With a family of ten to support, nearly all of his income goes into daily essentials and household expenses. Saving even a small amount seemed impossible. Due to their financial constraints, they couldn’t afford Somiya’s surgery. With nowhere else to turn, Somiya’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands for help. Moved by her condition, we registered her case. With the kind support of our donors and the valuable contribution of the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation, Somiya underwent the life-saving surgery.
On May 4, 2025, Somiya was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. Dr. Asim Khan performed her CAVC repair surgery on May 5, 2025. After receiving post-operative care, she was discharged in stable condition on May 9, 2025.
Somiya’s parents described their emotions as follows: "We had lost all hope, fearing we might lose our daughter. Your support brought light back into our lives. We will forever remember this kindness."
Today, Somiya is slowly regaining strength at home. She will be able to run and play like other children of her age.
Her family is immensely grateful to you for supporting them during their time of need.
