Kareeman Ali Gohur's Story

Kareeman Ali Gohur, a 54-year-old woman from Matiari, Sindh, has been facing challenges since a roadside accident five months ago. After this incident, she has been experiencing lower back pain. This pain radiates down her right leg, accompanied by weakness and loss of power. Today, Kareeman is unable to walk without support, making daily tasks extremely difficult. Kareeman now struggles to move around her home. She depends on others for basic needs, which has deeply affected her independence and emotional well-being. Recently, Kareeman visited a doctor and underwent a detailed examination. The doctor diagnosed her with an L4-L5 herniated disc, a condition where the cushioning disc between the spinal bones slips and presses on nearby nerves, causing pain and weakness. To relieve her pain, the doctor has advised Laminectomy and Discectomy, a procedure that can remove the pressure on her nerves and help her walk again without pain. Without timely treatment, her condition may worsen further, potentially leading to permanent disability.

Kareeman lives with her large family, including her husband, son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren. Her husband is currently unemployed, leaving the entire financial responsibility on their son. He holds a private job and earns only PKR 47,000 per month. This income is used to support the needs of the entire household, making it extremely difficult to arrange money for such a costly surgery.

Kareeman said in despair: “I have been living with pain and discomfort for almost five months, and every step feels like a burden. I cannot move without support, and it hurts me to depend on others for everything. We do not have the means to afford my surgery. I need your help so I can live without this suffering.”
