Change Zahidan Zahid’s Future with Salter Osteotomy
Zahidan Zahid's Story
Zahidan Zahid, a 3-year-old girl from Daharki, Sindh, has been living with a condition that affects the way she walks. Since childhood, she has had an abnormal gait and difficulty walking normally. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. Following a detailed clinical assessment, laboratory tests, and X-rays, the doctor diagnosed Zahidan with left Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH). It is a condition in which the hip joint does not develop properly. To correct the problem and improve her mobility, the doctor has recommended Salter Osteotomy, a pediatric orthopedic surgery. Unfortunately, the cost of the procedure is far beyond what her family can afford. If Zahidan does not receive timely treatment, Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip may lead to persistent gait abnormalities, reduced range of motion, and progressive joint problems. In more advanced cases, untreated DDH may contribute to early degeneration of the hip joint and long-term difficulty with movement.
Zahidan’s father is a farmer and earns only around PKR 15,000 per month. He is the sole earning member of the family and must provide for five family members, including Zahidan, her brother, and her sister. None of the children are currently attending school because the family struggles to meet their basic needs. They live in a small one-room hut with extremely limited resources, leaving them with no means to afford Zahidan’s surgery.
Zahidan’s father shared his heartfelt plea as follows:
“My daughter is very young, but she faces difficulty in walking. I work as a farmer and my income is only enough to manage our most basic needs. We have no savings to pay for her surgery. Kindly help Zahidan receive the treatment so she can walk properly.”
At only three years old, Zahidan has her whole childhood and life ahead of her. Your support can help her receive the surgery and give her a better future.
