Improve Shazia’s Vision with Cataract Surgery
Shazia Bibi's Story
Shazia Bibi, a 46-year-old woman from Multan, is living with impaired vision that has now begun to affect every part of her daily life. What started as mild blurriness in her right eye has progressed to a stage where familiar faces have become difficult to recognize, and routine household tasks have become difficult to manage. Recently, Shazia visited a doctor at a local hospital. After a detailed medical examination, the doctor diagnosed her with a right-sided cataract, a condition in which the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy. To restore her sight, the doctor has recommended a right-sided phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (Phaco + IOL) surgery. If Shazia Bibi does not receive the surgery on time, her vision may continue to deteriorate, making it increasingly difficult for her to perform daily activities independently. It may lead to complete vision loss, severely affecting her ability to work and care for her family.
Shazia lives in a modest home in Multan with her husband and six children. The family belongs to a modest background, where every rupee is carefully managed to meet household needs. Her husband works as a laborer and earns around PKR 25,000 per month. In addition, Shazia also contributes to the household by working as a housemaid, bringing the total family income to approximately PKR 34,000. This income is spent on essential expenses, including utility bills of PKR 5,000 and the educational expenses of PKR 1,000 for their children. After managing their basic necessities, very little remains to save for her treatment. Due to this financial strain, the family is unable to afford Shazia’s eye surgery.
Shazia said in despair:
“My eyesight has become very weak, and I struggle to see properly. It is difficult for me to manage my work and household responsibilities. Kindly help me see clearly again.”
