Maryam Bibi's Story

Maryam Bibi, a 35-year-old woman from Lahore, faced challenges after a fall, which left her with a severe injury to her right leg. It became even more complicated due to her previous medical history. Maryam had undergone a right total hip replacement for osteoarthritis several years earlier. However, in 2023, the implant had to be removed due to a fungal infection, leaving her right femur weak and vulnerable. The recent fall resulted in a fracture. Standing, sitting, and walking became extremely painful, making her dependent on others for even the routine daily tasks. Maryam visited a local hospital, where the doctor carried out a detailed evaluation. She was diagnosed with a right femur fracture. A femur fracture is a break in the thigh bone, the strongest bone in the body. Due to the severity of the fracture, the doctor recommended Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) with a femur nail to stabilize the bone and help it heal in the correct position.

Maryam is the mother of two young children and now depends entirely on her family for daily care. Her husband works as a bike rider and earns only PKR 20,000 per month. His modest income is barely enough to manage food, utility bills, and the children’s basic needs. Affording the cost of orthopedic surgery was impossible for them. Hoping to help Maryam regain her mobility, the family reached out to Transparent Hands. After listening to their concerns, we registered her case.

On May 8, 2026, Maryam was admitted to the Pakistan Society for Rehabilitation of Differently Abled (PSRD)in Lahore. Her ORIF with femur nailing was successfully performed by Dr. Saleem Bashir on May 9, 2026. After receiving post-operative care, she was discharged in stable condition on May 11, 2026.

Maryam is now recovering steadily and taking the first steps towards regaining her independence. Every day brings her closer to resuming the responsibilities she once carried with ease.
