You Ensured Kaniz’s Recovery From Incisional Hernia
Kaniz Abbas's Story
Kaniz Abbas, a 59-year-old woman from Karachi, had been living with increasing pain and discomfort caused by a lump in her umbilical region for the past six months. What initially seemed like a minor issue gradually worsened as the lump continued to grow in size and became increasingly painful. Everyday household tasks, which were once routine, became difficult and exhausting. Even simple movements caused discomfort, affecting her quality of life and limiting her ability to care for her family. Kaniz had previously undergone surgery for a paraumbilical hernia, but unfortunately, her symptoms returned over time. Concerned about the pain and swelling, she went to a doctor. After a detailed examination and diagnostic tests, doctors diagnosed her with an incisional hernia, a condition that develops when the abdominal wall weakens at the site of a previous surgical incision. To prevent further complications and restore her health, the doctors recommended mesh hernioplasty. However, the cost of the procedure was beyond the family’s financial reach.
Kaniz lives with her family in a rented house in Karachi, where they pay PKR 14,000 for monthly rent. Her husband is the sole breadwinner and supports the household through a private job along with daily wage labor, earning approximately PKR 20,000 per month. In addition to managing household expenses, the family also manages the educational costs of their two children. With their limited income barely covering basic necessities, arranging money for surgery was impossible for them. As Kaniz’s condition continued to deteriorate, the family turned to Transparent Hands for assistance. After reviewing her case, Transparent Hands registered her for treatment.
On April 18, 2026, Kaniz was admitted to the Altamash General Hospital in Karachi for her procedure. Dr. Abdul Waheed successfully performed mesh hernioplasty to repair the hernia. The surgery was completed without complications, and Kaniz remained under close medical supervision. After receiving the necessary post-operative care, she was discharged in stable condition on April 20, 2026.
Kaniz expressed her joy as follows:
“For months, I lived with constant pain and worry. Your support came at the perfect time. Thank you for giving me the chance to recover and return to a normal life. I will always remember this kindness and generosity.”
Today, Kaniz is recovering well and gradually resuming her daily activities. Her family is relieved to see her free from the pain that had troubled her for months.
They extend their heartfelt gratitude to you for making this life-changing surgery possible and changing her life.
