Arooj Fatima's Story

Arooj Fatima, a 9-year-old girl from Muzaffargarh, was struggling with severe vision problems that affected nearly every aspect of her childhood. Blurred vision made it difficult for her to recognize faces, move around confidently, and participate in everyday activities. Even simple tasks such as walking through her home, and climbing stairs became challenging. As her eyesight continued to affect her independence, her parents grew increasingly concerned about her future. Determined to find a solution, they took Arooj to a nearby hospital for a detailed eye examination. After conducting a comprehensive assessment, the doctor diagnosed her with bilateral Nystagmus and left-sided Aphakia. Nystagmus causes involuntary eye movements, while Aphakia refers to the absence of the eye’s natural lens, resulting in significant visual impairment. Arooj had previously undergone right-sided intraocular lens (IOL) surgery, which had improved vision in one eye. However, her left eye still required treatment. To improve her eyesight and prevent further complications, the doctor recommended Synechiolysis along with secondary IOL implantation for the left eye.

Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery was beyond the family’s financial capacity. Arooj lives in a modest home with her parents and three siblings. Her father, the sole earning member of the household, works as a laborer and earns approximately PKR 25,000 per month. His limited income barely covers groceries, utility bills, and other essential expenses. Her family could not arrange the money needed for the surgery. During this time of need, Arooj’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help. Moved by their situation, we registered her case.

On April 14, 2026, Arooj was admitted to the Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Hospital in Multan. The surgery was performed on the next day by Dr. Asif Manzoor, who successfully carried out Synechiolysis with secondary intraocular lens implantation in the left eye. An AcrySof IOL lens was used during the procedure. The surgery was completed successfully, and Arooj remained at the hospital for recovery and routine follow-up care. She was discharged in stable condition on April 15, 2026.

Arooj’s parents shared their joy as follows:
“For years, we worried about our daughter’s eyesight and the difficulties she faced every day. After the surgery, we feel hopeful. We are deeply grateful to you for your support during this time and for changing her future.”

Today, Arooj Fatima is recovering well and adapting to her improved vision. Her family is happy to see her becoming more confident in her daily activities.

They extend their heartfelt gratitude to you for making this life-changing treatment possible and giving Arooj a brighter future.
