Ali Waris's Story
Ali Waris is a two-month-old baby from Badin who has been living with swelling in both groins since birth. Concerned about his condition, his parents took him to a doctor for a medical evaluation. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed him with a bilateral inguinal hernia and recommended a bilateral herniotomy. A bilateral inguinal hernia occurs when tissue pushes through weak areas on both sides of the lower abdominal wall, causing visible swelling in the groin. Surgery is the only effective treatment to repair the hernias and prevent further complications. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is beyond his family’s financial means. Without the recommended surgery, Ali Waris may face serious complications. The hernia can become trapped, preventing it from returning to its normal position, which may cut off the blood supply to the affected tissue. This can lead to severe pain, intestinal obstruction, and permanent damage to the intestine, requiring emergency surgery.
Ali Waris belongs to a financially struggling family. His father works as a daily wage labourer and earns only PKR 16,000 per month to support a family of seven. He is the sole earning member and is responsible for caring for his wife and four children. Three of Ali Waris’s siblings attend government schools. The family also has a loan of PKR 300,000, placing an even greater burden on them financially. Their financial hardships make it impossible to afford Ali Waris’s surgery.
Ali Waris’s father shared his heartfelt plea as follows:
“Seeing my baby suffer at such a young age is heartbreaking for our family. I work every day to provide for my children, but my income is only enough to meet our basic needs. I have no way to afford this surgery. Kindly help my son receive the treatment and give him the chance to grow up healthy.”
