You Played a Key Role in Saving Masooma’s Life Through Heart Surgery
Masooma Abbas's Story
Masooma Abbas, a 2-year-old girl from Toba Tek Singh, had been suffering from severe breathing difficulties since birth. Even during infancy, feeding would leave her breathless and exhausted. As she grew older, her condition became increasingly concerning. She failed to gain weight properly, experienced frequent palpitations, and often lacked the energy that children of her age naturally possess. Concerned about her deteriorating health, Masooma’s parents took her to a local hospital. After detailed medical investigations and examinations, doctors diagnosed her with Partial Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), moderate to severe Mitral Regurgitation (MR), and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT). These serious cardiac conditions were affecting the normal circulation of blood through her heart and lungs, making it difficult for her body to receive sufficient oxygen. Her doctor advised an angiography followed by open-heart surgery for Complete Atrioventricular Canal (CAVC) repair as the best option to save her life. The cost of the surgery was far beyond what the family could afford.
Masooma lives in a modest rented house with her parents and three siblings. Her father works as a salesman and earns only PKR 35,000 per month, which barely covers rent, food, utility bills, and other household expenses. With no financial resources available for a costly heart surgery, the family felt helpless. During this difficult period, they turned to Transparent Hands and asked us to register her case.
On May 4, 2026, Masooma Abbas was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. Following angiography, Dr. Asim Khan performed open-heart surgery for Complete Atrioventricular Canal (CAVC) repair on May 6, 2026. The surgery was completed successfully, and Masooma remained under close observation. She was discharged in stable condition on May 10, 2026.
Masooma’s father shared his heartfelt gratitude in the following words:
“There were moments when we feared that our daughter would never have the chance to live a normal life. It was impossible for us to arrange the required money for surgery. Your kindness and generosity have given our daughter a new beginning. We will always remain grateful for the support you provided during our most difficult time.”
Today, Masooma is healing well. The surgery has given her the opportunity to enjoy a healthier childhood and a brighter future.
Her family is grateful to you and the Pakistan Children Heart Foundation (PCHF) for supporting her treatment.
