Bakhtawar Abid's Story

Bakhtawar Abid, a 6-year-old girl from Multan, had been living with blurred vision since early childhood. While children of her age learned, played, and explored the world around them, Bakhtawar faced daily challenges because she could not see clearly. She often struggled to recognize people from a distance, participate in activities with other children, and perform routine tasks. As time passed, her eyesight continued to deteriorate, causing growing concern for her family. Determined to find the cause of her condition, Bakhtawar’s parents took her to a hospital for a detailed eye examination. After evaluating her condition, the doctor diagnosed her with bilateral cataract, a condition in which the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy and interferes with vision. In September 2025, Bakhtawar underwent right-sided cataract surgery with the support of Transparent Hands. The procedure improved vision in one eye and brought hope to her family. To complete her treatment and further improve her eyesight, the doctor later recommended left-sided cataract surgery.

However, arranging money for another surgery was beyond the family’s financial capacity. Bakhtawar’s father works as a daily wage laborer and earns approximately PKR 30,000 per month. His income is used to cover household expenses and provide for the family’s basic needs. With limited resources and no savings available for medical treatment, paying for the surgery was impossible. Hoping to secure a brighter future for their daughter, the family once again turned to Transparent Hands for assistance. After reviewing her case, Transparent Hands registered Bakhtawar for treatment.

On April 17, 2026, she was admitted to the Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Hospital in Multan. Dr. Asif Manzoor successfully performed her left-sided cataract surgery. ZEISS CT LUCIA 621PY lens was used during surgery. The procedure went smoothly, and Bakhtawar remained under observation while receiving post-operative care. Satisfied with her recovery, the doctor discharged her in stable condition on April 18, 2026.

Expressing her gratitude, Bakhtawar’s father shared:

“Watching my daughter struggle to see clearly was heartbreaking. We wanted her to continue her education without difficulties, but we could not afford the eye surgery. Because of your support, she received the treatment. Thank you for giving my daughter a better future.”

Today, Bakhtawar is recovering well and adjusting to her improved vision.

Her family is happy to see her becoming more confident and active in her daily life. They extend their heartfelt
